The “Good Standing Policy' is a behaviour management policy to ensure students who are of a Post Compulsory age behave in an appropriate manner and attend school on a regular basis.

  • UPPER SCHOOL ENROLMENTS

The Post Compulsory Coordinator enrols all new Year 11 and 12 students into Churchlands SHS. This requires ensuring the student selects an appropriate course of study based on the evidence supplied.

You are required to make an appointment with the Post Compulsory Coordinator if you wish to enrol at Churchlands Senior High School in Year 11 or 12.

Churchlands offers Certificate I in Building and Construction (General Workshop), Certificate II in Business and Certificate II (Business Information Technology) in Hospitality (Food Operations) on campus. These are completed whilst students also do Curriculum Council subjects. A Registered Training Organisation (RTO) is used to moderate the schools performance and issue the certificate.

Central and West Coast College T.A.F.E. also offer courses to interested school students through a VET in Schools Programme which requires coordination.
  • CAREERS COUNSELLING

Career counselling, which includes general group information sessions and individual counselling work, is conducted by the Post Compulsory Coordinator. This includes assisting in subject selection, University/TAFE courses, employment, career guidance and Curriculum Council information such as Secondary Graduation details.

The use of JIGCAL – Career Voyage as a career tool to assist students in selecting the most appropriate career for them as an individual is widely used in Upper School . This computer programme prints out forty jobs best suited to the individual after they have responded to a range of questions. Year 11 and 12 students can do this programme in the library at lunchtime under the Post Compulsory Coordinators supervision. All Year 10 students do the programme during the ‘Transition Programme' in Term 2 .

The Post Compulsory Coordinator distributes a wide variety of materials including information regarding such things as: Careers Expos: university courses, jobs (full-time/part-time), TAFE courses.

Information is given to Year 11 and 12 students (Year 12 in particular) regarding Post School Education including university and TAFE information sent to Post Compulsory Coordinator.

  • UPPER SCHOOL SUBJECT SELECTION

[* INCLUDING YEAR 10 TO 11 TRANSITION PROGRAMME]

The Subject Selection programme from Year 10 to 11 and Year 11 to 12 is coordinated by the Post Compulsory Coordinator.

The Post Compulsory Coordinator updates the ‘ Upper School Selection Booklet' that is handed to students along with conducting ‘Information Sessions' with both students and parents.

There is a requirement for parents and students to attend a Subject Selection session in the day or evening. A panel of teachers are selected to be subject counsellors and they are fully inducted by the Post Compulsory Coordinator.

Year 10 students are involved in a ‘Transition Programme' from Year 10 to 11 that is conducted in Society and Environment classes for a total of ten periods. Students look at a range of career related activities and are involved in the JIGCAL – Career Voyage programme. They are also given the career resource ‘Job Guide' and ‘ Upper School Booklet' during these sessions.
