The world wide web has more music-related links than we could ever list here, but here are some that CSHS students (and their parents!) might find useful - everything from composer home pages to downloadable sheet music and music files. If you know of any links that others might find useful, please send them to the CSHS music webmaster. Happy browsing!
General Information
One of the best resources on the web for information about "classical" (that is, Western art music) is Classical Net website. It has a wealth of information about, and links to, composers and their works, books and scores, CDs and CD reviews, orchestras, downloadable sheet music, and lots of other stuff.
Sheet Music
Commercial publishers of scores and sheet music have a presence on the web, for example, Baerenreiter, Boosey and Hawkes, and Edition Peters, but did you know that you can also freely download some scores as well? Here are some places to start:
- The Werner Icking Music Archive has instrumental as well as choral music available for download. It is by far one of the most comprehensive sites for classical music scores, most of which are available as PDF files that can be easily printed off.
- The Choral Public Domain Library concentrates on choral sheet music and is the largest website devoted to free choral sheet music.
- Download the complete set of parts for the Akers march arrangement of Waltzing Matilda.Waltzing Matilda March Card Parts (Cowan, Arr. Akers)
- The Mutopia Project also has a lot of sheet music by well-known composers as well as lesser-known ones.
Sound Files
Most computers will play MIDI and MP3 files, and many music typesetting programs will import and convert them as well. Try out the ones below, and then check out this page of links to other sites where you can get sound files.
