Freestyler Neil Brooks was born in England in 1962 and settled in Australia at the age of four. He attended Churchlands Senior High School from 1975 to 1979, where he was a champion and record-breaking swimmer. Neil went on to become Western Australia’s most decorated swimmer, named as Western Australia’s Sports Star of the Year in 1982. He won four gold medals and a silver from the 1982 and 1986 Commonwealth Games and in the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games, won gold in the 4x100 medley relay. In Los Angeles in 1984, as a member of the celebrated “Mean Machine”, he won silver in the 4x100 freestyle relay and bronze in the medley.
