The study of a language is compulsory at Churchlands Senior High School from Year 7 to Year 9. Students are given the opportunity to study Chinese, French or Japanese and choose which language they will study at the beginning of Year 7. At the end of Year 9, students are given the choice to pursue their study of a language in Year 10 and are encouraged to continue into Senior School.
Students benefit from a range of enriching experiences both inside and outside of the classroom as they engage in interactive activities, incursions and excursions. There is also the opportunity to participate in school exchange programs where they can experience total immersion in the target language and culture.
The Languages Department consists of a team of dedicated teachers. We believe in the value of genuine communication and strive to motivate students to deepen their understanding of other cultures and languages. We aim for our students to achieve personal excellence and endeavour to provide opportunities for them to become active citizens of the local and global community. Our teaching and learning programs inspire our students to aim high and achieve their full potential in communicating in the target language.
